God our Father

We are introduced to God as an infinite being who is all powerful, eternal and all knowing. We see his magnificence in the Universe and the creation all around us, yet he is invisible.

Now such an ALMIGHTY being is not void of feelings and emotions. In fact, his number one emotion is Love. While he created all diverse creatures, the stars and the galaxy, yet he desires to have a relationship of love with his human creation who have been created in his own image.

The #1 command God gave Moses was for one to have a LOVING relationship with the Invisible creator.
The #2 command is to LOVE fellow humans.

Now God desires to be a FATHER as he is the creator of mankind. In the beginning he begot Adam and Eve – his very own children.
As any human Father, God showers love towards his children and yet desires obedience for the good of the children.

The theme of God as our Father is seen throughout the scriptures. King David beautifully summarised the Father’s character and love towards those who love him in this Psalm:

Yahweh is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.

He will not always accuse; neither will he stay angry forever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities.
For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him. For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass. As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone. Its place remembers it no more.

But Yahweh’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children’s children; to those who keep his covenant, to those who remember to obey his precepts.

(Psalms 103:8-18)

Consider then that the God of the Universe is compassionate and gracious. He is forgiving in that he does not deal with us our sins deserve, but as a Father has mercy on his children, so the ALMIGHTY God has mercy on those who fear him.
When you think of God know and believe that Yahweh’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting towards those who fear him.

When you think of God do not think of him as a wrathful and terrifying God (though he is such to the wicked) but as a GRACIOUS GOD towards those who seek to do his biding. Remember he knows your origin is from dust, therefore he will be patient with you when you fault, just like good Fathers are patient towards their children in real life.

Yahweh has established his throne in the heavens. His kingdom rules over all.
Praise Yahweh, you angels of his, who are mighty in strength, who fulfill his word, obeying the voice of his word.
Praise Yahweh, all you armies of his, you servants of his, who do his pleasure.
Praise Yahweh, all you works of his, in all places of his dominion.
Praise Yahweh, my soul!

(Psa 103:19-22)

  1. We praise God for the second resurrection. For the books shall be opened and that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
