46 of 100: Holy Spirit – No BI-UNE God in the Old Testament: Part 6 [Does the Holy spirit have its own feelings separate from God?]

Isa 63:10  But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

  1. Does the Holy spirit have its own feelings separate from God?

Suggested Answer: Possibly No! God’s spirit reflects the mind/feelings of God, just like a man’s spirit reflects the mind/feelings of man!

The same word “roo’-akh” is used to describe man’s spirit:

Isa 57:15  For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Isa 54:6  For Jehovah hath called thee as a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, even a wife of youth, when she is cast off, saith thy God.

Psa 143:7  Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah; my spirit faileth:

1Ki 10:5  and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of Jehovah; there was no more spirit in her.

Dan 7:15  As for me, Daniel, my spirit was grieved in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

Can we separate Daniel from his spirit being grieved in the above verse? The feeling of the spirit directly reflects the the feeling of God.

Rom 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Rom 8:27  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

  • The Spirit acts according to the will of God
  • God and His spirit are ‘connected’.
  • The work of the spirit includes miracles, providing knowledge, to connect the feelings of man to God.
  • Is Jesus the prayer mediator or the Spirit?
  • Now it is true that God’s spirit is not the same as Man’s spirit, as God’s spirit is powerful! To have God’s spirit is to posses immense abilities!

Is this possible?

God is grieved 2 times but the spirit is grieved 3 times!

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. (John 16:13 ESV)

Jesus bore witness that the spirit will not speak of ‘his’ (personified as the spirit is wind) own will but the will of the Father. The spirit is OF God is SUBJECT to the will of GoD. The spirit does NOT seek to be worshipped. The purpose of the role of the spirit is to draw men and women to God. It is human tendency to worship the messenger rather than God.

An analogy: God used a symbol to teach Israel but Israel worshipped it.

2Ki 18:4  He removed the high places and broke the pillars and cut down the Asherah. And he broke in pieces thebronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had made offerings to it (it was called Nehushtan).
